FRIENDS reunion special finally starts taping: A piece of good news for all the FRIENDS fans around the world. After a whole year of delay, the FRIENDS reunion special is finally in production. Many sources and even David Schwimmer or as you know as Ross Geller confirmed the news himself. In an interview, he stated that “I will be getting on a plane soon and shooting for Friends Reunion next week. I am going to see everyone next week for the first time in many years.” It is a piece of exciting news for everyone around the globe.

Originally, the Friends Reunion special has been planning for a year now. It was announced way back on February 22, 2020. When every main cast member shared a picture of all six on Instagram with the caption “It’s happening.” The shooting was scheduled to begin in March 2020. But just like all the other movies and shows, It had to be delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It was again planned to resume in August 2020, but again it wasn’t meant to be at that time. And after some more delays, finally, the shooting and production will start in the coming week. Many sources have stated that the shooting will begin on April 5, 2021, in Los Angeles. HBO Max hasn’t confirmed the news yet, but they should make an announcement really soon.
What will be it about?
The new FRIENDS reunion special is not an episode of Friends TV show. It will feature all the six lead actors appearing as themselves and share some untold stories from the sets. There will be lots and lots of behind-the-scenes footage. HBO Max already told in an interview that “Lastly, in order to avoid any misunderstanding about what this special is, we want to make it very clear that this is not a new, original episode of the series. The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.” In my opinion, it is the right choice. Because unnecessarily extending a show when there is absolutely no need will be bad for the legacy of the show. The ending of FRIENDS was emotional but it was a satisfactory end no matter what.
Now, for the special all six cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc will appear in the special. They will reunite at the FRIENDS original soundstage – Stage 24, at the Warner Bros Studio in Burbank. Ben Winston is directing the special. This special will have 11 executive producers. Along with all the main cast and Ben Winston, Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane are also producing the series. Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane will also appear in the special.
FRIENDS Reunion Special Release Date
According to many reports, the special will release in May. Now there are many factors that say that May will be the releasing month. First of all, the shooting of the special shouldn’t take more than a week. So it will be done and ready in April only. The last episode of FRIENDS aired on May 6, 2004, so it isn’t far-fetched to say that they will release the special episode on that day only. Another factor that implies that is HBO Max will celebrate its one-year anniversary on May 27, 2020. So, they might want to release the special episode close to that date only as a kind of celebration.
No matter what you say, The FRIENDS reunion special is a mass attraction. It is a special event that will attract lots and lots of fans. And HBO Max will try to take full advantage of that. Warner Bros have spent 400 million dollars so that HBO Max has exclusive rights to the series. So, yes you can watch all 10 seasons of FRIENDS in HBO Max now and also the special that will come out.
This will be the first time that every six lead actors will appear on the screen for the first time in almost 15 years. At the 2020 Grammy awards Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and Courtney Cox appeared as a part of Mini-Reunion. So, you can expect some laugh-out-loud moments again from the cast. Mathew Perry might put on his sarcastic pants and will steal the show again. Let just hope that there won’t be any delay this time and we will get our favorite comedy show again.
