Aside from covering oneself in the cosiest weighted blanket you can find, I have another recommendation for you: movies about the next season. That’s right— the best spring-sounding movies!

You know those happy lamps you sit in front of to receive a dose of vitamin D in the winter? A beautiful spring movie, in our opinion, can have the same effect. You immediately feel lighter, warmer, and sunnier, and even if it only lasts for the duration of one movie, it’s still refreshing and reinvigorating. Allow us to show you the list of films that qualify as “spring movies” if you’re not sure what that means.

1. You’ve Got Mail (1998)

Kathleen Kelly, the proprietor of a small but well-known children’s bookshop, is having an affair. She betrays Frank Navasky, a well-known journalist, by e-mailing privately and anonymously with a (also betraying) man she met in a chat room when they are together. Her business is suddenly jeopardise by the development of a Fox Books bargain store only “around the corner”. She meets Joe Fox, the owner’s son, and is quickly offend by his arrogant approach to business. Despite the advise of her anonymous mail-pal, she is forces to close her store. Joe Fox’s life, on the other hand, spirals out of control. When he discovers that his anonymous mail-pal is none other than Kathleen Kelly.

Winnie Foster possesses all of the qualities that a young woman could desire. She is the daughter of a well-bred, wealthy, and well-respected family. She yearns for adventure and freedom. She sneaks away one morning to explore the woods surrounding her family’s home. There she meets the Tucks, a close-knit family with a mysterious past that makes her wonder if she would want to live forever. And just as Winnie thinks she’s found the answer. After an earthquake in India left Mary Lennox orphaned, she was taken to England to live with her uncle, Lord Archibald Craven, in a frigid ancestral manor in Yorkshire. Mary encounters him briefly, still grieving over his wife’s death ten years ago, but she is generally left alone. She makes two wonderful discoveries as a resourceful and curious young lady. First, she discovers an overgrown secret garden, which was her aunt’s favourite and has been locked since her death. Second, she has a cousin, Colin Craven, who is an unwell youngster who has been told he must stay in bed at all times during the day. After Mary and another new acquaintance, Dickon, have resurrected the garden, they decide Colin must see it, a decision that will have far-reaching consequences.

5. Saving Grace (2000)

After her husband commits suicide, a widow discovers that he has mortgaged everything they own, and the banks are preparing to foreclose. She fights to save her house when faced with imminent calamity and no practical expertise other than her ability to produce plants. Her gardener, who is battling to grow a few marijuana plants in a secret location, recommends she utilise her green house to help grow the plants and sell them to make the money both of them require. He wants to marry, but he needs money to do so. What he doesn’t realise is that his girl friend is expecting a child, and he is worried that they may be arrested for marijuana cultivation.

While they are ostensibly working, the entire community is aware of the project and is rooting for them to succeed. Grace travels the crop to London and tries to sell it to a ruthless but charming drug dealer when the plants arrive. From there, everything comes crashing down.

6. Moneyball (2011)

General Manager Billy Beane’s Oakland Athletics lose in the playoffs to the New York Yankees in 2001, then lose three players to free agency. Beane must wonder how he can have a competitive club when the A’s player salaries are less than a third of those of the wealthy teams. He employs and listens to Peter Brand, a recent Yale grad who evaluates players using Bill James’ statistical approach, much to the chagrin of his scouts. Beane assembles a team of unknowns who can get on base and score runs on paper. Beane’s manager, Art Howe, will then refuse to deploy the players as Beane desires. Can Beane beat Howe, win games, make it to the 2002 World Series, and defy baseball’s tyrannical conventions?

7. Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)

Chyio and her sister Satsu are nine years old when her fisherman father sells them to a Miyako Geisha house in the 1920s. Satsu is rejected by the house and is taken to a brothel. Over time, Satsu escapes from the brothel where she was kept, leaving the rebel Chyio alone to become a geisha’s slave. Six years later, with the help of the successful Mameha, she learns how to become the geisha Sayuri, all the while overcoming Hatsumomo’s malice and jealousy. Chyio falls in love with The Chairman when still a youngster, and they meet after WWII, during a moment of change in Japan with the occupying American forces.

Suspect number two is her husband Phil, whom she regularly disparaged and who is having an affair with Rona, a waitress with her own dark secret. Suspect three: Jeff’s landscape partner Bobby, who wants Jeff out and has threatened to pull out Mona’s ovaries, and who is about to marry Rash.
