The best and Worst Netflix originals of 2021: Netflix released almost 100s of originals every year. Not all of them are good. Some are really bad and dodgy and make me question Netflix’s sanity. I mean they are releasing masterpieces like Roma on one hand and atrocious movies like ‘The kissing booth’ on another. I know Netflix is a place where everyone can watch movies according to their taste. But, seriously, whose taste was ‘The kissing booth’? That is enough ranting for now. This year is also the same for Netflix. 2021 might just be 3 months old, but Netflix has released some really good and some really bad originals in this time period.

We have compiled a list for you that will cover 5 best originals and 5 worst originals by Netflix in 2021. SO, you know what to watch and what to ignore now. Don’t thank me yet, read the list and then come back and thank me. These are the best and Worst Netflix originals that came out in 2021.

The best and Worst Netflix originals

Best Netflix originals of 2021

Lupin

I can’t include Lupin in this list no matter what. Lupin was definitely a sleeper hit at the starting but now is one of the best things of the year. The second season announcement already broke the internet and it just shows how popular this show is. It came out in January of this year and is still living in my mind. From the location of the show to the plot, everything is really good here. You can watch it anytime you want and will entertain you throughout. Definitely one of the best Netflix movies of 2021.

Malcolm and Marie

This movie is good, really good. But it could have been so much better. But, it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good. It was an emotional ride. The fact that it was made in the first few days of quarantine only deserves praise in itself. It is a cruel movie. Sometimes you are so invested in the movie because of how good this is, but sometimes it is indecisive, cringy, and really really slow. But no matter what, this is worth watching. Both of the actors have given Oscar-worthy performances. To be honest, I will be shocked to see if Zendaya doesn’t win it this year. If you are planning to watch this movie, get ready for monologues. Lots of them.

History of Swear Words

This is one of the most unorthodox series I have ever watched and it has Nicolas Cage in it. By the way, if you don’t know, Nicolas Cage is absolutely best. The series tells us the cultural and historical impact of some of the most famous curse words in the English language. It has Nicolas Cage cursing for six-episodes straight, what else do you want? Netflix should have just cut down all the comedians that feature in the show and should have shown only Nicolas Cage cursing for the entirety of the show. If by now you think I am simp for Nicolas Cage, that is because I am. By far one of the best Netflix originals that you should watch.

To All the Boys: Always and Forever

The final part of the trilogy was a really beautiful one. It erased the bad second part we got to a certain extent. It gave that warm and fuzzy feeling that everyone wanted from this type of movie. The movie is a win-win in all aspects. It will make you laugh, angry, frustrated and the final scene can tear you up. This movie was energetic just like the first part and was able to keep me on my seat. Both of the leads show maturity in their acting for the first time. And the best thing is that the problems they dealt with were relatable.

The Dig

This might be my favorite movie of the year because it is the best. It is a delight and if you haven’t watched it yet, you should watch it. This might be the kind of movie that we need right now. Amidst this pandemic a piece of normalcy. It is gentle yet interesting, thought-provoking without requiring you to lock into the deep themes to enjoy it. This is definitely one of the best Netflix originals of all time. If I have to pinpoint exactly what won us over, I won’t be able to do it. Because this movie should be watched as a whole rather than pinpointing certain moments.

Some Honorable Mentions

  • Finding Ohana
  • Pieces of Woman
  • The White Tiger

Worst Netflix originals of 2021

Outside The Wire

The main problem with this movie is that it doesn’t make you invest emotionally at any point. It is not the worst thing in the world, but it is just something there to watch. You can watch it on a lazy day without any expectations. Even the action was not up to the point. You can just watch it for the sake of it. The only saving grace for the movie is Anthony Mackie who does his job amazingly.

Sentinelle

When I heard that Netflix is going to release a French thriller, I was excited. But it completely ruined all of my expectations and excitement. It was plain bad. It was not thrilling at any point, the actors did a pretty terrible job, the camerawork was dodgy and most important it was predictable right from the start. I don’t know about you, but it sounds bad in my book of thriller movies.

The Girl On the Train

I just want to ask Netflix India, what were they really thinking before making it? Because this definitely is the worst movie I have ever seen. How can you screw up a remake of an adaptation this bad? By the end of the movie, you will be against the main character just because of how bad this is. It might be a new low for Netflix India for sure. The CGI, VFX, Make-up, Acting, Plot, and every other thing you can think of is bad. If you are planning to watch this movie, then don’t.

As of now, the track record of Netflix is really good in 2021. There are more good movies than bad ones. I was seriously struggling to find bad Netflix originals in 2021. I think it is a good sign and if they can maintain it till the end, there will be no reason to complain.
