Knives Out 2 & 3 on Netflix worth $ 400 million: Knives Out came out in 2019 and was a huge success. It came out before all the pandemic scenes and everyone was able to enjoy it on the biggest screen. Those were some good times, weren’t they? But, the days of the halls are gone and OTT platforms are ruling the industry right now. I hate writing this sentence, I just want the halls to open again. Keeping my ranting aside for a while, in pretty surprising news, Netflix has just bought the distribution rights of Knives Out 2 and 3.

Knives Out 2 & 3 on Netflix

Yes, you heard that right. You will be able to enjoy Knives Out on Netflix from now. Not only that, the sequels of the movie will release on Netflix only. Netflix bought the franchise for almost half a million dollars. The 450 million dollars deal will see Netflix officially releasing both parts of the sequels. It is one of the biggest streamer movie deals ever. The first part of the movie was made with a budget of only 40 million $ and grossed about 311 million dollars. So, the deal was expected to be this huge. The final decision Lionsgate had to make was between Netflix and Amazon Prime. And at last, Netflix won and added the movie to their library.

What does the deal include?

The deal might cost around 450 million dollars to Netflix. The deal not only includes distribution rights but also the budget for both movies. Even though it includes all of those things, the sequels of the original movie will be so much more expensive than the original ones. Originally, Knives Out was a single picture deal with MRC, who distributed the movies through Lionsgate. So both Johnson and Bergman were allowed to look for future distributors if they wanted to expand the franchise. And well, after seeing the profit of the first one, who could have said no?

I think it is a very clever deal for both Netflix and the producers. The producers get a hefty amount of money and whereas Netflix has acquired a very big franchise exclusively. It is a win-win for both parties. Sure, the amount must be big, but it will be compensated in no time. It won’t be long before Netflix adds Knives Out 2 & 3 on Netflix in their library. So, all of you will be able to enjoy Knives Out on Netflix. As far as I am concerned, I don’t think there will be any regional boundaries, so you can enjoy the movie from any part of the world.

Knives Out 2 & 3: Return of Familiar Faces

The premises of the sequels will be different. Both of them will be murder mystery only, but with new stories and characters. Except one, Daniel Craig will return as Detective Benoit Blanc, unraveling those mysteries. I am just happy that we will be able to see Daniel Craig as a detective even after his James Bond run ends. Which, by the way, is ending really soon. Detective Benoit Blanc was a good character and Daniel Craig did the job amazingly. It was just some scenes where he overacted and tried to look extra quirky. I don’t mind it, but just tone down a little and it will be perfect.

Rian Johnson will also return as the director of the movie. And if you all don’t know, I am a huge fan of his work. His work in Knives Out and The Last Jedi left me truly mesmerized. The close-up shots in Knives Out 2 & 3 on Netflix were just something else entirely. I am glad that we will get Knives Out on Netflix, I am going to watch those close-ups shots again and again now. Rian has also finished writing both sequels and the shooting of the second part is going to start in late June. The shooting will take place in Greece. At the moment of writing, Johnson might be thinking of casting or even have decided some of them. So, keep following Reelsrated as we will update you as soon as something is announced.

Knives Out 2: Expected Release Date

We can expect the first sequel to get a release date either late 2021 or early 2022. That is if everything went smoothly. If there are no future lockdowns or any restrictions and shooting goes smoothly, these are our predictions for the release date.

Personally, I am really excited about the sequels. I absolutely loved the first part of the movie. Apart from some plot holes, the movie was absolutely stunning. From the way it was shot to the way, it was executed. I loved every bit of Knives Out 2 & 3 on Netflix. It was one of those smart movies that really lets you think but the answer is so simple that you won’t believe it. It was quirky and a fun watch. If they can somehow bring Ana De Armas back, even for a very small part, I will be really happy. That doesn’t look possible at the moment, but a person can dream, right?
