Valentine’s Day is approaching, and one of our favourite ways to celebrate is to stay in and watch a romantic movie on Netflix. There are numerous ways to make a home date night (or a Valentine’s Day celebration with friends) feel as memorable as a lavish evening out.

We all deserve to feel special and cherished, whether it’s Valentine’s Day or not. Consider streaming one of the following Valentine’s Day movies for a nice and romantic evening if you’re preparing your perfect Valentine’s Day right now (no chocolates required).

1. Paris, Texas (1984)

Travis, weathered, mute, and amnesiac, reunites with his brother after four years of self-exile, drifting aimlessly through the desolate and dry Texan desert. Travis, struck by regret and bursting with repressed emotions, gradually attempts to reintegrate into society; after all, his eight-year-old son, Hunter, and his missing wife, Jane, now need him more than ever. Travis is hundreds of kilometres away from reconciliation. He is separated by faded memories of a once-happy life. 2. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

The two runaway lovers go out to find love, independence, and happiness against the backdrop of an impending catastrophic storm. While a formidable posse of worried parents and dead-serious officials leave no stone unturned in their search for the missing children.

3. Love (2015)

Murphy is a student at a film school in the United States who is currently residing in Paris. He had a two-year relationship with a French woman named Electra. As a way to spice up their love lives, they meet and have a no-strings-attached threesome with another woman, a young blonde Danish girl named Omi. Later, he had intercourse with her behind Electra’s back, and Omi fell pregnant as a result. This unintended pregnancy ended Murphy and Electra’s relationship on a sour note, forcing Murphy to marry Omi.

Nora, Electra’s mother, calls him one morning to inquire if he’s heard from her. Since she hasn’t heard from her in three months and is concerned about her daughter’s suicidal tendencies. He spends the rest of the day reminiscing about his two years with Electra. Also, including how they met in Paris. Their rapid connection, and their life over the next two years, which are filled with drug misuse, hard sex, and poignant moments.

4. Lawrence Anyways (2012)

The film depicts ten years in the life of Laurence. A literature teacher who, after years of hiding his thoughts, transforms into a woman. Her tense relationship with her family gets compound further when she reveals herself to them while trying to find consolation with her significant other, Frédérique. Others may not accept or comprehend Laurence in her actual form at first. But those who knew her before her metamorphosis recognise her as Laurence.

5. Carol (2015)

New York, Christmastime, 1952. Working in a department store in Manhattan, young Therese Belivet, an aspiring photographer, crosses encounters with Carol Aird, an elegant mother-of-one who is going through a tough divorce. Undisguised attraction grows into intense affection as Carol and Therese engage on a clandestine affair despite all odds, set against the backdrop of magnificent New York’s frigid winter and rigorous social rules. Carol and Therese, on the other hand, are well aware that they are playing with fire in their all-or-nothing game of desire.

6. Happy Together (1997)

Yiu-Fai and Po-Wing arrive in Argentina from Hong Kong and immediately set off on a road trip. Something isn’t right, and their relationship is in jeopardy. To save money for his trip home, a disillusioned Yiu-Fai begins working at a tango club. Yiu-Fai feels sympathetic when a battered and damaged Po-Wing emerges, but he is unable to establish a more intimate relationship. Po-Wing, after all, isn’t quite ready to settle down. Yiu-Fai now works in a Chinese restaurant and meets Chang, a young Taiwanese man. In contrast, Yiu-life Fai’s takes on a new twist, while Po-life Wing’s continues to disintegrate.

7. Masculin Feminin (1966)

A sequence of vignettes about contemporary metropolitan France’s young culture are presented. These vignettes are linked by a core thread: the storey of Paul, a twenty-one-year-old who witnesses or overhears many of the events. He’s recently finished his eighteen-month required military service and is now entering the adult phase of his life. Paul finds a job writing through an acquaintance, Madeleine, an aspiring pop singer, despite Paul’s more conventional culture leanings of baroque music and literature, which is counter to Paul’s more traditional cultural leanings of baroque music and literature.

They starts dating, and Paul ends up moving in with Madeleine and her two roommates, Elisabeth and Catherine, due to circumstances. Paul, who believes he has fallen in love with Madeleine, is unsure of their future as he spends time with all three ladies, all of whom Paul’s buddy, fellow writer Robert, wishes to be with. As Paul switches careers to work for a public opinion polling firm, he may gain a better grasp of life by listening to the perspectives of his peers.

8. In The Mood For Love (2000)

Two neighbours, Mr Chow and Mrs Chan, gradually discover that their spouses are having an affair against the backdrop of a bustling 1962 Hong Kong and a noisy, cramped apartment complex. The lithe Mrs Chan and the morosely gorgeous Mr Chow, whose fine beliefs and rigid morals have been marred by betrayal’s bitter stain, now strive to understand—and hold at away bottled-up emotions, suppression, and loneliness—bound by their great convictions and inflexible morality. However, when both find themselves powerless in the face of love’s catalytic force, a silently passionate undercurrent of inexpressible emotion begins to creep up on them.

9. Gone With The Wind (1939)

10. Casablanca (1942)

Rick Blaine, an exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular nightclub in Casablanca during World War II. Blaine, a cynical lone wolf, gets his hands on two valuable letters of transportation. When Nazi Major Strasser comes in Casablanca, sycophantic police Captain Renault does everything in his power to appease him, including capturing Victor Laszlo, a Czechoslovak underground leader. Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick’s one-time sweetheart, much to Rick’s surprise. Rick is enraged with Ilsa for abandoning him in Paris, but when he discovers she had good reason, they plan to reunite via the letters of transit. That was, after all, their original plan.
